The presumably confused man who was shot in the leg by the police on Hoofdweg in West yesterday, was standing on a police car just before. He had a knife in his hand.

Officers who were in the police station saw this on the images of the security cameras around the building. “My colleagues went out and asked him to get off the car, but then one of my colleagues was approached by that man with that knife,” said a police spokesman. “That was such a dangerous situation that another colleague had to shoot.”
The man was then treated by officers and a compression bandage was put on to prevent him from losing a lot of blood. The 40-year-old from Amsterdam is by ambulance transferred to hospital. He was approachable.
He probably also punctured the tires of a police car with the knife. “But we also have to look at the camera images to see if that is actually the case,” said the spokesman. “We also have to look at the background of this person. I understood from colleagues that he displayed confused behavior. But research has yet to show that too.”
The National Investigation Department is investigating whether the officer has shot correctly.
