Two police officers were slightly injured while chasing a motorist in Heerlen on Saturday evening. The suspect rammed two patrol cars during that chase, but could then be run over and detained, police reported on Sunday. The man is suspected of attempted manslaughter.
The suspect caught the attention of the officers for his driving behavior. When a patrol gave him a stop signal at 11:05 PM, the man took off at high speed and, according to the police, a wild chase started on the Beersdalweg and the N281 in Heerlen. One of the chasing patrol cars ended up in a ditch.
After undercutting and arresting the fleeing motorist, officers found burglar tools in his car. “That may have been the reason why the man ran away,” said a police spokesman.
According to the spokesperson, the suspect “still had some open cases”. It is not clear which offenses are involved.
