Among the skills of the Eurométropole implemented among the inhabitants of the 33 municipalities that make it up, the Water and Environmental Risks Department (320 positions), attached to the Deputy General Directorate for Ecological and Economic Transformation of the Territory, ensures:
* management of water policy in all its uses;
* management of the water cycle;
* the design and implementation of a global policy for the preservation and management of water resources;
* environmental risk management.

The Strasbourg Eurometropolis is the organizing authority for the public water and sanitation service for all of its member municipalities. It guarantees the organization of a fair public service throughout its territory in its missions of:
* maintaining an excellent quality water and sanitation service,
* scheduling of works (need and feasibility, investment levels, asset management, etc.),
* definition of the price of water,
* guarantee of production and distribution of quality drinking water in sufficient quantity in compliance with current standards,
* guarantee of efficient collection and treatment of waste and rainwater in compliance with current standards, taking care to limit impacts,
* protection of the environment in order to guarantee the return to good ecological status of watercourses
