A police officer was attacked with a knife in the southern French city of Cannes this morning. French Interior Minister Darmanin initially reported that the officer was injured, but he retracted his words a little later. “Fortunately, the victim was not injured, thanks to his bulletproof vest,” Darmanin wrote on Twitter.
The culprit has been eliminated. According to French media, it would be a man with Algerian nationality, who was not known to the police.
The attacker opened the door of a police car with three officers in it, which was parked in front of a police station, French media reported. He attacked the officer behind the wheel with a knife. The man then wanted to attack a second agent, but the third agent would have prevented that by shooting the attacker. He would have been seriously injured.
Darmanin announced that he will visit Cannes later today.
