Office of the Governor | BIOQuébec and BioNJ establish a strategic partnership to promote growth in life sciences

Laval, Quebec – September 10, 2024 – BIOQuébec, BioNJ and Choose New Jersey are pleased to announce the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen cooperation and collaboration between the life sciences sectors of Québec and New Jersey. This agreement was signed during Choose New Jersey’s economic mission to Canada led by the State’s Governor. This strategic partnership will create opportunities for members of both organizations to access new resources, connect to international markets and participate in events designed to drive innovation and growth in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

“New Jersey is a hotbed of innovation, with a growing life sciences sector driven by collaboration with industry partners overseas,” Governor Murphy said. “The partnership between BIOQuébec and BioNJ is a step forward in achieving critical outcomes to advance research and development, education and overall growth while advocating for patients in New Jersey and beyond.”

The MOU provides a framework for cooperation that includes sharing best practices, promoting bilateral events such as trade missions, as well as participating in joint conferences. This collaboration will enable the life sciences communities in both regions to expand their reach and impact globally.

This partnership marks a significant commitment by both organizations to advance their respective sectors while creating tangible opportunities for their members. Additional details on specific events and opportunities arising from this partnership will be shared with members in the coming months.

Benoit Larose, President and CEO of BIOQuébec, said: “We are delighted to partner with BioNJ through this MOU. In today’s global context, where the life sciences industry is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities, it is crucial for trade associations like ours to cultivate strong relationships with international partners. Such collaborations not only mitigate the risks associated with volatile supply chains for the industry, but also create opportunities to generate value for our members. This partnership will enrich the biotech sectors in Quebec and New Jersey through knowledge sharing and joint initiatives, and represents a concrete step towards expanding the influence of our industries abroad.”

“Throughout Quebec, the United States, and particularly here in New Jersey, many companies have forged lasting and well-established strategic partnerships,” commented Debbie Hart, President and CEO of BioNJ. “Alliances, like the one between BioNJ and BIOQuébec, serve as catalysts for innovation, igniting new companies and fostering cutting-edge research collaborations. We look forward to bringing our members together in a shared mission to elevate the life sciences sector, with the ultimate goal of accelerating the delivery of transformative medical breakthroughs to patients around the world.”

“As New Jersey’s leading business attraction organization, Choose New Jersey is proud to facilitate this powerful collaboration to unite the life sciences sectors of New Jersey and Quebec to strengthen both economies,” said Wesley Mathews, president and CEO of Choose New Jersey. “This agreement creates pathways for New Jersey biopharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to not only grow their businesses, but also spread their ideas around the world.”
