Office Cluster Rises, WFH Advice Expert in Red and Orange Zones

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Member epidemiology from Airlangga University, Windhu Purnomo suggested working from home (work from home/ WFH) is carried out in areas that are vulnerable to transmission corona virus which is still in the orange and red zones.

This was conveyed by Windhu related to the spread of office clusters as a point of transmission of Covid-19. The number of office clusters rose in Jakarta during the transition PSBB.

Office clusters became 90 clusters with 459 positive cases. Whereas before, the number of positive cases from the office cluster was only 43 people. Thus, an increase of up to 10 times. For this reason, the Covid-19 Task Force recommended that companies or offices implement a work system from home or office work from home (WFH).

The orange and red zones referred to refer to the color zones set by the Covid-19 Task Force. The Task Force marks an area prone to transmission of the corona virus with four colors, green, yellow, orange and red.

“As long as the office is in the orange-red zone, it should be WFH, because the situation means that the risk of transmission is still high, right? It means that there should not be office activities outside of essential,” he said when contacted via telephone, Thursday (7/30) .

Essential work according to him can still be carried out without long distance because it involves the basic needs of the community.

While observers from the Faculty of Public Health, Airlangga University, Laura Navika Yamani said that WFH could be carried out until the situation of the spread of Covid-19 had decreased or the vaccine was successfully developed.

“With WFH at least until the situation of the spread of covid-19 has declined or has received a vaccine,” he continued.

Previously, SOE Minister Erick Thohir said the Covid-19 vaccine from China being tested in Indonesia could be produced in early 2021.

Furthermore, Windhu regretted that currently some areas that are still in the red zone do not comply with WFH rules. In fact, according to Windhu, if there is in an area that is still in the red zone, the activities of the people must be limited.

Starting from working at home, asking residents to stay more at home, there should be no movement such as public transportation and vehicles. Likewise, activities in malls to offices should be limited.

“But the fact is not done, the reality remains loose, everything is opened, the mall is opened,” he complained.

Even though the public place was opened, according to Windhu it should still comply with the health protocol. Similarly, Laura also stressed the need for strict health protocols to suppress the case of the spread of Covid-19 in the office.

The health protocol in question is related to maintaining distance and working time in an office which is a closed room.

According to Windhu, the duration of interaction must be reduced and the distance must be tenuous. Especially because the office is a closed place. Thus, the risk of transmission is higher.

“Then the distance must be longer, not just one and a half meters, but can be two meters or more between people,” he explained.

“The duration of humans inside shouldn’t be too long … maybe cut in half to four or five hours maximum.”

He also advised officers to keep wearing masks and not to eat and drink in the room. He recommends eating in an open space.
