Indonesia can get financial assistance of up to billions of US dollars if you want to establish a relationship with Israel. This offer came at the instigation of President Donald Trump, who is currently mediating between Muslim countries to build relations with the Jewish country. How does Indonesia respond to this lucrative offer?
Reported Bloomberg, Wednesday (23/12/2020), this was revealed by the CEO of the US International Financial Development Corporation (DFC) – a government agency investing abroad, Adam Boehler, in an interview on Monday (21/12) local time at Hotel King David, Jerusalem.
Boehler mentioned that DFC could double or more of its current portfolio of US $ 1 billion, if Indonesia was willing to establish relations with Israel.
“We’re discussing it with them about it,” said Boehler in the interview.
“If they are ready, they are ready and if they do then we will be more than happy to support financially more than what we do,” he continued.
Boehler said he would not be surprised if his organizational funding for Indonesia, the world’s most Muslim-majority country, would increase to “another $ 1 or 2 billion (US).”
US and Israeli leaders said they expect more countries to join the wave of normalization deals with Israel announced in recent months. The countries that have joined include the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.
The US also hopes Oman and Saudi Arabia will join forces, although Boehler said DFC funding for the two countries would be limited. This is because the organization is not allowed to invest directly in higher income countries.
Boehler is in Israel as part of a delegation with Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House adviser, Jared Kushner. Next in Morocco, Boehler said he would announce the opening of the first Prosper Africa branch in North Africa, an initiative to boost business between the US and Africa.
He also said his agency is likely to become part of a debt syndicate to help finance Israel’s sale of the country’s biggest port in northern Haifa. American and Emirati firms have shown interest in the tender, and Boehler said he would look to bids involving American citizens or US allies such as the United Arab Emirates.
