Offered Norwegian conscripts 20,000 for ID cards – NRK Troms and Finnmark

– There are conscripts who have reported that they have been offered money for their military ID.

That’s what Eirik Skomedal, spokesman for the Army, says.

The soldiers are said to have been offered 20,000 kroner at a nightclub in inner Troms this weekend. The people who sought out the conscripts are described as English-speaking with an Eastern European accent.

– There can be many, says Skomedal.

Possible intelligence

Skomedal says that the incident is being treated as possible intelligence against military forces.

– It is notified to the security authority and they handle the case further.

Skomedal is not surprised by the incident, and believes it may have something to do with the exercise Cold Response which started on March 14 and lasts until April 1.

– Espionage increases when there are a lot of military forces in an area.

Increases security

The Armed Forces has asked military personnel to be extra careful with their military ID after the incident.

– We have asked them to be aware that there are some who have reported this, says Skomedal.

NRK has talked to the soldiers who were at the nightclub. They confirm the incident, but will not be interviewed. They reported the incident on to their superiors.
