Inter Milan have rejected an offer from Atlético de Madrid for Arsenal and Tottenham are targeting Lautaro Martínez, according to reports in Italy.
Martínez has been strongly linked to a move to the Premier League after winning the Serie A title with Inter. Champions’ financial condition means they may have to sell another top talent. In the process, the Argentine forward could make it to England.
Arsenal have tried to sign him with ambition recently despite his lack of European football. His thoughts on the move are unclear, and some sources say he would be more interested in it than others suggest.
Still, moving to the Emirates Stadium would not be a formality due to its high price and rival competition. Of course, Recent claims named Tottenham of North London as another fan of the America’s Cup winner.
But such a move would only happen if Harry Kane leaves the Spurs, meaning the most concrete competition for Martinez at this point could come from Spain.
The 23 year old would rather join one of the three biggest clubs in La Liga -Barcelona, Atlético or Real Madrid- and one of them has already taken a step.
According to Tuttosport, Inter have rejected a 50 million euro offer from Atlético for Martínez. In the process, her other suitors have learned how much it can cost.
Despite, or perhaps because of, their urgent need to raise funds, Inter want almost double the offer from Atlético. His valuation of Martínez is around 90 million euros.
Aware that such a fee may be unrealistic, the Nerazzurri could grudgingly accept between € 70 million and € 80 million. Either price would make it the most expensive sale of all time, beating Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s transfer of € 69.5 million to Barcelona in 2009.
Whether Atlético will raise their offer, or Arsenal or Tottenham will match Inter’s demands, only time will tell.
Atleti is apparently in pole position, because Arsenal’s idea of sending Alexandre Lacazette on the other side would not give Inter what they need financially.
Martínez will begin preseason training with Inter tomorrow, with his future still uncertain. His contract expires in 2023, but there are signs that he could move out this summer.
