The delegates of the Children’s and Youth Parliament (KJP) are the political mouthpiece for the needs and demands of the young generation. In the KJP, children and young people can develop their own ideas together with other young people and implement them in their own actions and projects with a lot of fun and motivation.

In the children’s group, children from grades 3 to 7 meet weekly in the KJK Sandgasse. There the KJP has its office and its own room, in which the older KJP members of the youth group also meet regularly. Four times a year, the official parliamentary sessions, KJP plenary assemblies, take place in the town hall, in which motions for city policy are decided and current and new projects are discussed. The influence of the young people in the KJP is secured through a seat in the youth welfare committee, which also regulates the KJP’s right of application to the city council. The KJP also has its own budget for its work. Lots of opportunities to help shape and contribute to urban development. So that as many young citizens as possible learn about the KJP and participate in the upcoming election of the 12th children’s and youth parliament, the delegates are still on a school tour until Thursday, October 7th, to present the KJP and their work. The current chairwoman of the board, Besan Kaeid, is also there. She graduated from high school in the spring, so she is leaving the KJP and wishes “that the people who come after us take advantage of the opportunities and work to make their dreams possible in Offenbach. I hope that many will get in touch and get involved. “

The elections for the new KJP will take place from October 25th to 29th at all Offenbach schools. Primary schools are represented by two people, secondary schools by one person for every 200 pupils or part thereof. Anyone attending a school in the city of Offenbach and attending at least the third grade can stand for election. The term of office is two years. The candidacy must be submitted to your school by October 8th at the latest, elected by the student council or a representative group. By the way, interested children and young people can participate in the working groups of the KJP without being elected.

The newly elected representatives can exchange ideas and get a first glimpse of the local political context during get-to-know days. At the end of November, the constituent general assembly will follow with the election of the seven-member board of the 12th KJP.
“I hope that the great work of the current KJP will continue,” said Stephan Färber, head of the city council and patron of the KJP. “Because the chance to find out at an early stage what the city is planning for children and young people and to bring in your own ideas cannot be left lying around. The magic word is to be active. “
