The opposition criticizes the election of CDU politician Peter Freier.
It rarely happens that the CDU and the left in Offenbach are in agreement. The time had come at the special meeting of the city council on Tuesday evening. With a majority of the votes of the new traffic light coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP, Chamberlain and Mayor Peter Freier (CDU) was voted out. His dismissal only becomes effective if the city councilors have given their approval a second time at least four weeks apart. His successor is to be the previous SPD parliamentary group leader Martin Wilhelm.
“It is to the detriment of the city of Offenbach that they do not find the size to accept Peter Freier’s honest offer, namely to be able to work for the city of Offenbach for the rest of the term,” criticized CDU parliamentary group leader Roland Walter. His non-partisan work to date would have been a very good basis for cooperation for the remaining three and a half years. Sven Malsy, the parliamentary group leader of the Left, said: “It is groundless and it is all about power-political interests.” Voting costs the taxpayers: the opposition calculated around 250,000 euros.
Dominik Schwagereit, the leader of the FDP parliamentary group, emphasized that a “clean new beginning” was needed. Especially since after being voted out of office, suitors have the right to return to the higher administrative service of the Hessian police, and if he makes use of it, it does not cost the city much money.
SPD leader Christian Grünewald emphasized “that it is not about the person, but about the function.” In unison, the coalition members said that clients are honest people with integrity.
