Offenbach am Main’s health department is adapting its investigative work
“The large number of new infections makes it necessary to change the procedures in the health department. The direct information is now sent via an information letter. As before, institutions with particularly vulnerable people, such as geriatric care institutions, but also schools, are informed directly by the health department and these are continuously looked after by the health department. By focusing on the vulnerable groups, the city of Offenbach complies with a requirement of the State of Hesse for the public health service, ”explains Mayor Sabine Groß. The laboratory reports received by the City Health Office about those who tested positive are reported to the RKI on a daily basis. Those affected receive an information letter from a messenger early in the morning. The letter contains detailed information on quarantine and behavior. It provides information on how to proceed and contains helpful hints.
New questionnaire should help
A new questionnaire records the data otherwise collected over the phone. For this purpose, digital recording is offered via a short link or a QR code. Alternatively, the questionnaire can be filled out on paper and sent to the health department by post. The digital form contains a link to automatically translate the page and the information requested.
The health department offers answers to many questions from those who tested positive, for example about the effect on salary or community facilities www.offenbach.de/quarantaene comprehensive answers. Those who have tested positive must now inform the contact persons themselves. Contact persons can use the form at www.offenbach.de/kontaktperson fill in to report to the health department.
“The numbers are currently increasing across Germany – in terms of incidence, in terms of the number of people with Covid-19 in hospitals, in terms of deaths. The growth is unchecked. Such a number of new infections paralyzes hospitals in the long term, even for people with a heart attack or an important operation. Here and in Frankfurt, around 15 percent of intensive care is necessary for people with Covid-19. There are already significantly more in the Offenbach district and in Bavaria more than 50 percent of intensive care is sometimes required. The positive rate in the tests is higher than ever at almost 20 percent. The incidence is particularly high in children between the ages of 5 and 14, “explains Dr. Bernhard Bornhofen, head of the city health office.
Appeal to the citizens
“We appeal to all Offenbachers to keep their distance from all contacts outside of their own household and to wear a mask indoors. Infection with Sars-Cov-2 can lead to long illness and incapacity for work. Please continue to be careful, ”emphasizes Mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke for the entire magistrate.
The free Corona warning app, which has been expanded to include many functions, can be downloaded to any smartphone. Those who have tested positively can use it to warn all people who have been in the vicinity of the person concerned for a long period of time. The app provides figures on incidence at home, people who have been warned and other important data. Vaccination certificates and test results can also be stored there. The app is offered by the federal government and can be downloaded from the respective platforms on the Internet.
