Advent is for many the best time of year. To ensure that this remains the case in the crisis year 2022, the city and public utilities of Offenbach are donating 10,000 euros to the Tafel Offenbach eV. This guarantees all customers of the social institution a delicious Christmas meal.

“In view of inflation and the associated price increases also for food, what the Offenbach food bank has to offer is more important than ever,” emphasized mayor Dr. Felix Schwenke hands over the check. The non-profit aid organization on Krafftstrasse distributes surplus food of impeccable quality to the needy once a week. “Many volunteers and the tireless efforts of Council Leader, Christine Sparr, contribute to this invaluable offering, which we are happy to support right now in times of crisis,” said the mayor. Stadtwerke managing director Peter Walther pointed out that in Offenbach, as in other cities, many children and young people depend on the food of the Tafel. “Your good care is especially important to us during the Advent and Christmas season.” With around 45 helpers, the association is “an excellent example of solidarity in Offenbach”. The city and municipal services also wanted to do their part.

Christine Sparr, head of Tafel, sees the donation as a “true blessing for our facility”: “Christmas is now safe for everyone and I’m very grateful – before the bailout call I was afraid it wouldn’t be enough for our customers in the front row and in the back. The situation of the social institution, which had already been aggravated by the corona pandemic, has now deteriorated dramatically due to inflation: As Sparr reports, it currently has 1,577 customers, almost 650 more than in the past. last year. “At the same time, the number of donations has halved.” As in-kind donations from retailers are also declining, she currently has to do the shopping. “With the city’s and municipal agency’s money, we can now have potato salad and red cabbage, dumplings, biscuits and some sausage,” he announced. Also, an HR reporter is collecting Christmas stollen all over the city to delight the elderly. This guarantees It seems that Christmas will not be canceled even in 2022.
