The right-wing extremist of the AfD is to speak in front of the Offenbach town hall on March 4. The counter-demonstrators are getting ready.
The Offenbacher Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) found a new date after Björn Höcke’s failed appearance on February 12. Now the right-wing extremist and spokesman for the Thuringian AfD is to speak in front of the town hall on Thursday, March 4. That said the Offenbach AfD chairman Christin Thüne on Wednesday in the YouTube panel of Michael Wittwer, who belongs to the right-wing extremist citizens’ movement Pro Chemnitz. Last week she canceled the event because the town hall would have been closed and Höcke and his security guards would not have had a place to warm up and go to the toilet. And no Dixi toilets could have been organized in a hurry.
Höcke invited her because she mainly wanted to reach frustrated non-voters and Höcke could pull people off the sofa and get them to vote. “Most of them cannot follow a Meuthen or Weidel intellectually,” said Thüne. But she doesn’t want to discriminate against anyone, she added
Sybille Schäfer from the alliance “Colorful instead of brown in the district and city of Offenbach” announced that there would definitely be another counter-demonstration. A week ago, despite the canceled Höcke rally, around 150 people came in front of the town hall to demonstrate against right-wing extremism and fascism. Seven counter-rallies alone had been registered with the public order office.
The canceled Höcke appearance was also the subject of the last city council meeting. Minister of Order Peter Freier (CDU) had explained in detail why the city did not act against the AfD rally in front of the flame at the town hall, the memorial for the victims of National Socialism. In order to prohibit an event there, the memorial must be designated as a special location by the state. However, this is extremely rare, since it comes with the restriction of the meeting. “We consulted the police headquarters in Southeast Hesse and the protection of the constitution. Both agencies saw no apparent basis for a ban or a postponement of the meeting, ”said Freier.
There were deliberately no legal steps taken to avoid upgrading the event. The flame would have been enclosed in an appearance. Whether the city has to do this in two weeks depends on whether Höcke actually comes this time or not.
