After eight weeks of emergency operation, the hospital is performing predictable operations again.

For around eight weeks, the Offenbach Sana Clinic treated almost only emergencies and corona patients. Now the clinic is planning to return to normal operations.

The background is the permission of the state of Hesse to carry out predictable (“elective”) operations – on condition that the clinic switches back to emergency operation when the number of infections increases. Norbert Rilinger, medical director at the clinic, welcomes the move as an important signal for the Return to a “new normal”. “We are very happy to be back for patients who have sometimes had to deal with pain or restrictions since the onset of the corona crisis,” he says.

Many people with other illnesses came to the hospital too late or not at all because of the pandemic. The Offenbach city administration also sees this problem. The reason for the declining visits to the doctor and clinic is the fear of becoming infected with Covid-19. “Even with a heart attack or stroke, patients often only go to a practice or hospital when their condition has deteriorated enormously,” says the city. This harbors the risk of worsening the course of the disease. Health department head Sabine Groß (Greens) therefore calls for careful consideration whether a doctor’s visit should really be postponed.

“For your own good, go [..] please see a doctor if you feel sick. And if there are serious symptoms of illness, be sure to call the emergency services, ”says Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD).

According to Rilinger, the capacities for people with corona in the Sana Clinic can be ramped up again “within a short time”.
