Deutsche Umwelthilfe praises the clean air planning of the city of Offenbach – and declares the legal dispute on the subject to be over soon.
The action brought by the German Environmental Aid (DUH) against the state of Hesse, which aimed to achieve better air quality in Offenbach, is off the table. The new planning for air pollution control in the city is so convincing that the legal dispute will be ended with a “declaration of completion” as soon as the air pollution control plan has come into force in October, said DUH lawyer Remo Klinger of the Frankfurter Rundschau. The appointment scheduled for Monday at the Kassel Administrative Court had been canceled a while ago. It is now clear that negotiations will no longer take place – and that there will be no conditions such as diesel driving bans.
In Offenbach, the limit value for toxic nitrogen dioxide continues to be exceeded on several streets. The city wants to work through a catalog of measures agreed with the state to change that, including the gradual electrification of the bus fleet. For Klinger, the approach of Offenbach and Wiesbaden differs “significantly” from the more hesitant approach of other cities such as Frankfurt and Limburg.
