The city leaders of Dreieich, Neu-Isenburg and Langen do not believe in the plans of the railway to make Park & Ride spaces in Buchschlag chargeable.
Three mayors and a clear opinion: It is the wrong signal that Deutsche Bahn (DB) wants to make the 100 free parking spaces at Dreieich-Buchschlag station a fee. Dreieich’s mayor Martin Burlon (non-party), New Isenburg mayor Herbert Hunkel (non-party) and Langen mayor Jan Werner (CDU) are certain that “this will not be the case with the traffic turnaround”.
The municipalities’ alliance is no coincidence and has to do with the planned Regional Tangent West (RTW), the new rail connection around the west of Frankfurt. Dreieich is the final stop of the RTW, Neu-Isenburg is connected to the line with five stops, Langen is still hoping for the RTW connection.
The parking situation at the Buchschlager train station is currently already tense, the mayors announce in a joint press release. Commuters would already park their cars in the adjacent residential areas. “With the planned parking fees, there is now a threat of a clear regional shift in the parking space shortage beyond Dreieich,” it says.
More sustainable mobility can only be achieved by working together. This also includes Deutsche Bahn. The city leaders cannot understand that DB wants to make its public transport offer with payment machines unattractive itself. Many commuters are hardly willing to pay parking fees in addition to the train ticket.
