The number of Covid 19 infected people in old people’s homes has fallen significantly, the Offenbach district announced. New infections are also continuing to decline.

There are currently people who have tested positive in twelve facilities, a total of around 120 residents were confirmed to have a Covid infection, including eleven new infections within seven days. When the last report was made two weeks ago, the health department had reported around 320 infections in the homes.

The Phönix senior citizen center Ahornhof in Langen, where 26 people are infected with the virus, is currently hardest hit. More than 2000 residents have now been vaccinated once, and around 1600 older people received the second vaccination. A total of around 2500 people live in the homes. Numerous nursing staff were also vaccinated, around 1000 received the second vaccination, according to the health department.

Several facilities continue to receive support from Bundeswehr soldiers who, among other things, help with testing. The institutions are “very pleased and grateful for the additional help”.

Devastating effect

The virus has had a devastating effect in many old people’s homes in the district. Almost exactly half of the 416 people who died of Covid-19 in the circle by Friday lived in old people’s homes. Around eight percent of the residents died of or with Covid, many who continue to struggle with the long-term effects of the disease. Visitors have to prove a negative test result. jon
