The city of Offenbach announces a competition. The best idea is € 50,000.

A new residential building that can be used as a community housing project. Make the historical signal box of the railway more visible. And tear down the former company building. These are three of the city’s conditions for the redesign of Bismarckstrasse 118 near Offenbach Central Station. To do this, she wants to launch an ideas competition for the property and the area opposite.

“With the competition we want to tackle an area that is urgently needed,” says Planning Department Head Paul-Gerhard Weiß (FDP). This is made possible by the urban development program Social Cohesion. The city had already acquired the property from Deutsche Bahn in 2018.

The competition area covers an area of around 7500 square meters. Around 250 square meters are available for the new construction of the residential building. “I can imagine the non-profit construction company Offenbach (GBO) as a partner who will then implement it,” says Weiß.

The competition area also includes the small green area that is separated from Groß-Hasenbach-Straße, including the bunker, which is covered with graffiti. The facility was previously part of a former Jewish cemetery. The bunker is used as a warehouse for cultural management and for a daycare center.

Costs of 110,000 euros are budgeted for the competition. The prize money should be around 50,000 euros. Subject to the approval of the city council this Thursday, the first proposals could be submitted from May. Tim
