The state of Hesse wants to modernize around 120 train stations in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and the transport associations RMV and NVV and make them more accessible.

Offenbach’s mayor Sabine Groß welcomes the agreement reached today: “With this program, the State of Hesse is taking on the full financing for the barrier-free renovation of Offenbach’s main train station. This is very good news for the many travelers who use the station every day. In the future, the trains will also be accessible by wheelchair, stroller, heavy luggage or bicycle without any obstacles. The fact that the renovation can now take place without any financial contribution from the city is a great support from the state, for which I would like to thank you very much. “

The Hessian Minister of Economics and Transport, Tarek Al-Wazir, signed a framework agreement with Ronald Pofalla, DB Board Member for Infrastructure, and the managing director of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund, Knut Ringat. In total, the modernization program for the Hessian train stations amounts to 580 million euros. The state of Hesse is contributing at least 183 million euros. After all the planned construction projects have been implemented, almost all Hessian train stations will be accessible without steps. Around 500,000 travelers should benefit from this. For the necessary measures at Offenbach’s main train station, plans are already underway as part of the HEGISS project “Southern Inner City” to upgrade the station and the station area.
