For Hessen, there are a quarter more new corona cases and more Covid victims than a week ago. Offenbach’s town hall chief is already rejecting renewed easing for Christmas.

IIn Hesse, the corona infection rate is not decreasing despite the “lockdown light”, on the contrary. It even accelerated within a week, even compared to the beginning of this week. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports 1658 new positive tests for the state after 1338 last Wednesday. 49 Covid-19 victims are officially added after 40 a week ago. That means: Both values are a quarter higher than before. 49 is also a very high value in comparison with other days. The RKI explains: While the index of the new cases among 100,000 inhabitants confirmed within seven days “stagnates or decreases slightly in the younger age groups, it continues to increase in the older population. Since older people are more often affected by severe disease courses from Covid-19, the number of severe cases and deaths continues to rise. “

The new positive tests and the deaths each make up about eight percent of the corresponding values in the federal government. They correspond to the Hessian share of the total population. In the past, Hessen was often disproportionately represented in the case of new infections and fatalities. Since the pandemic began, 1,578 of the 99,566 confirmed cases have been fatal. For comparison: as of October 1, there were only a good 19,000 infections and 551 deaths in connection with the pandemic. This shows the dynamics of the pandemic since late autumn. According to the RKI, 25,600 cases are considered active, i.e. not passed.

In view of this, Prime Minister Volker Bouffier set the new line in corona policy on Tuesday. From Friday onwards, there is a night curfew and an all-day alcohol ban in hotspots. Already at the weekend he thought out loud about possible exit restrictions at hotspots with more than 200 cases confirmed within a week and under 100,000 inhabitants and confirmed this on Monday. There could also be new requirements for New Year’s Eve, as he said. Details are pending.
