A delicious smell of bread is in the air, rhythmic hammer blows can be heard from the forge, Bader Magnus is praising his miracle cures and a carpenter is working wood with an axe – that can only mean one thing: It is Medieval Day at Frauenfeld Castle! On Sunday, August 25, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Thurgau Historical Museum is giving the whole family a colorful day of adventure at the castle.
Instructive, colourful, exuberant and full of hands-on activities: this is how the Middle Ages are presented at Frauenfeld Castle.
Attractions for young and old
The blacksmith has his hands full. In his workshop he hammers red-hot iron and is happy to have strong girls and boys who actively support him. A keen eye counts when shooting a crossbow. Who will hit the bullseye with their arrow? The farmers’ wives prepare flatbread over an open fire and the man-at-arms is looking for volunteers for training in the halberd and beam fighting. With a lot of hard work and tact, the castle ladies create beautiful works of art out of felt. Anyone who wants to can let their creativity run wild, make something beautiful out of felt or practice writing with a pen and ink.
For brain, heart and palate
The colorful spectacle is accompanied by 20-minute tours of the castle, short plays and fabulous story boxes. For your physical well-being, there are hearty grilled dishes in the castle tavern. The adventure day takes place whatever the weather and admission is free.
