Will Tiril Eckhoff no longer be seen in the Biathlon World Cup?
The Norwegian, who is currently on hiatus, has announced herself on Norwegian radio NRK commented on their future – and a career end is not excluded.
Eckhoff was “very unsure” whether she would return to the World Cup, she emphasized. “I’m in a thought process because I’m struggling so much with my health,” said the 32-year-old, who has been struggling with the consequences of her corona infection for almost a year, before the start of the Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof (8.- February 19 in LIVETICKER).
Two years ago at the World Championships on the Pokljuka, Eckhoff had won four gold, one silver and one bronze.
The overall World Cup winner from 2020/21 gave a deep insight into her emotional state: “I’m still thinking about what I’ll do, whether I can endure another season or whether I’ll let it be.” (Denise Herrmann-Wick in SPORT1 -Interview)
Like many other athletes, Eckhoff was infected with Corona at a party at the end of the 2022 season – including Marte Olsbu Röiseland, who was also absent until recently. While Röiseland returned in time for the World Cup, Eckhoff is still suffering from the consequences today. Among other things, she complains about sleep problems, “which I would not wish on my worst enemy.”
The two-time Olympic champion is doing better, but she is still receiving medical treatment. “As a top athlete, I have experienced almost everything. And I must have the necessary motivation to make the necessary efforts. And I know how big this effort is.”
