NEW YORK – An off-duty police officer in western New York state fatally shot a woman, wounded another and then took her own life during a domestic dispute, police said.
The shooting occurred just before 7:30 pm Monday at a home in Rochester, police said. Police officer Tiffani Gatson of the City of Grecia, a suburb of Rochester, shot Angely Solis, 27, and a second woman and then turned the gun on herself, Rochester Police Lieutenant Greg Bello said .
Solis was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Gatson, 29, was taken to hospital, where she died. The remaining victim was being treated in a hospital for gunshot wounds that police said were not life threatening.
Although Bello said the shooting was due to a domestic dispute, he didn’t provide details.
Greek Police Chief Michael Wood said in a statement that he wanted to express his department’s “collective sadness and grief”. Wood said his agency will work with the Rochester department and the state attorney general’s office in the investigation into the shooting.
