After Denis Huseinbasic (1.FC Cologne), the regional football club Kickers Offenbach is once again threatened by the loss of a local player. According to information from our newspaper, top scorer Jakob Lemmer will sign with a new club tomorrow.
Offenbach – Jakob Lemmer has been something of life insurance for Offenbacher Kickers so far this season. The top scorer of the OFC (eight goals, four assists) played a big role in the fact that the third in the table (eight points behind leaders SSV Ulm 1846) still has at least a theoretical chance of winning the title and thus of promotion .
But going forward, the Kickers will most likely have to do without the 22-year-old. According to information from our newspaper, Lemmer is about to move to the 3rd division. The contract with the new club should be signed tomorrow.
In mid-December, OFC managing director Matthias Georg stressed that there was no demand for any players and that there was no intention of giving up top players in the winter. The situation seems to have changed in the meantime: Lemmer’s working document allegedly expired in the summer. Then he could change clubs for free. Now the Kickers have probably been offered a sum which has made them reconsider. It’s entirely possible they will use part of the fee to get you a replacement. After all, it’s also about documenting that you haven’t given up on the promotion fight despite Lemmer’s surrender.
It is the second time in a few months that OFC has had to let go of a homegrown player who has become a top performer. Before the season, Denis Huseinbasic moved to first division club 1.FC Köln for a fixed fee of €50,000. In the Lemmer case, apparently there is no such clause, so the sum would be freely negotiable. The OFC certainly won’t let it go below value.
Lemmer joined from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2016 and played for OFC in the Under-17 and Under-19 teams. In 2019 he made his professional debut in the regional league. In the 2021/22 season, the attacking winger prevailed as a loan player at league rivals RW Koblenz (six goals, six assists). At OFC he built on this result. After 60 official games with the Kickers (14 goals, 10 assists), the next step of his career is approaching.
