5G: residents denounce different treatment for Free, the mayor says he cannot do anything

Local residents do not want a 5G pylon. They also point to a difference in treatment between operators and citizens.

“A few years ago, I wanted to build a garage attached to my house. There were so many obligations due to the proximity of this natural area that I gave up my project ”remembers Rui Alexandre, a resident of rue du Canal, in Aire-sur-la-Lys. “We have restrictions placed on us. A neighbor also wanted to make an extension. We told him no. And there, we let build ”, he protests by denouncing a pylon of 30 meters brought to be built on a ground of 8000 m ² to deploy the 5G of Free Mobile. An area otherwise prone to flooding, which irritates even more.

Residents add that they don’t need 5G. “Even young people tell us it’s useless. We have fiber, it works well. What is the point of switching to 5G? To go even faster? Where will it end? ”, they wonder. Opponents also denounce the attack on the aesthetics of the place. “There are already pylons everywhere, tall buildings. Why not use them instead of relying on them for more. We chose a living environment, we paid dearly for that and we discovered this project, without even being warned ”, they plead. Without forgetting the health aspect. “Having an antenna as your first neighbor is worrying, even if we have little information to date on the effects of this equipment on the human body”, they indicate.

For his part, Jean-Claude Dissaux, the mayor of this commune of Pas-de-Calais, in the Hauts-de-France region, says he is bound hand and foot. “They are very offensive. They put antennas everywhere, on private land. We, the municipalities, are not asked for our opinion. We are given the information, period ”, explains the city councilor.

Anyway, the residents do not intend to let it go. Rui Alexandre and his partner Sylvie Vanlerberghe thus launched a petition, which collected 80 signatures in the space of a few days. “Almost all residents have signed it”, indicates his companion. “We’re going to move. There is no question of letting it be ”, assures Sylvie Vanlerberghe who approaches the elected officials and inquires about what is possible to do.
