Oezil is one of three Arsenal players who have rejected a pay cut.

To The Athletic, he explained his situation at the club at the time.

“We need more information (about salaries) and a lot of unanswered questions,” said Oezil, quoted from ESPN.

“Everyone is fine with the postponement period (due to the pandemic), while there is so much uncertainty. I will be fine to take part in the club’s decisions, and then cut wages if necessary,” he said.

“However, we were rushed there without proper consultation,” said Oezil.

According to Oezil, all players at Arsenal need details of the pay cut, including where the money should go.

“For anyone in this situation, you have a thing to know everything,” he said.

“But we didn’t get enough details. It was too fast for something very important,” said Oezil.

Furthermore, Oezil felt himself to be the one to blame after news of the rejection of a salary cut.

“I was not the only player to reject the pay cut in the end, but only my name came up,” he said.

He mentioned that there were parties who had deliberately destroyed his career at Arsenal in the past two years.
