Oettinger admitted: Many countries in the EU are protecting their energy interests –

/ world today news/ Many European countries protect their national interests in energy. Green energy is very expensive and needs subsidies. This recognition was made by the European Commissioner for Energy, Günter Oettinger.

He delivered a speech before an expert conference on energy issues organized by the European Commission in Brussels.

The governments of the member states “continue to act according to the narrow national logic”, said the European Commissioner.

“Many European countries continue to think within the national logic, which makes it difficult to create a single European energy market,” noted Oettinger.

“For a number of years, we had the rule to store gas in gas storages for 60 days of autonomous management, but the EU (Energy) Council wants this period to be reduced to 30 days (as it is expensive to store such volumes with stable supplies). But when an energy crisis looms on the horizon, the member states ask the European Commission to create a unified approach to energy policy,” the European Commissioner was outraged.

Finally, in his words, in the EU, “support for alternative energy sources is falling due to insufficient measures for their development”. The problem is that the technologies for the use of the sources in question are more expensive than the use of traditional energy sources. Accordingly, they need large state subsidies and other support measures such as tax breaks, which, however, the states gave up because of the economic crisis. /ITAR-TASS
