The Mitsotakis government is proceeding with the absolute destruction of the hitherto free public health system, with patients now being asked to pay even for the ICU, according to the Official Gazette for the afternoon surgeries.
This serious revelation was made by the general secretary of the Federation of Associations of Hospital Doctors of Greece (OENGE), Panos Papanikolaou, according to which the Official Gazette also includes non-surgical interventions, such as hospitalization in Intensive Care Units,
In other words, the patients are now asked to pay even for the ICU, as the “Private ICUs with a stingy state pocket of 2000 euros in the public hospitals” emphasizes in its post the Federation.
“Adonis Georgiadis said that he had signed the MOU about “afternoons” 13 days ago. Finally, the gazette came out today. It also includes non-surgical operations, e.g. hospitalization in ICU! “Private ICUs with a hefty €2,000 government pocket inside public hospitals,” he says, citing the relevant data from the Official Gazette.
As the general secretary of OENGE Panos Papanikolaou typically points out: “Just to get ahead: it is the 2nd page of Appendix I of the KYA where the “extremely heavy” = €2,000 from the patient’s pocket (or more correctly from the relatives’ pocket in order to the intubated person should be admitted to the ICU so as not to die)”.

In fact, Panos Papanikolaou reports that the paid list has also included hospitalization in Neonatal Units.

O… price list for the afternoon surgeries at the National Health Service
The Ministries of Health and Finance put their signature on the MOU regarding afternoon surgeries. Together with these, the amounts that the patients will need to pay were also announced.
According to the KYA, operations and other invasive procedures performed outside the standard operating hours of the NHS hospitals will cost between 300 and 2,000 euros.
While the Mitsotakis government is advancing the privatization of the NHS, hospital workers point out that half of the operating theaters are closed, while patients are on a waiting list for surgeries even for more than a year.
In fact, this picture is expected to worsen since, based on the Ministry of Health’s plan, the clinics in which the patients who pay for afternoon surgery will be treated will have to have the required staff. Staffing will be done, it seems, by transferring nurses from other clinics.
