Greek goalkeeper remembers his time at Benfica
After more than five years at Benfica, Odysseas Vlachodimos left for Nottingham Forest in the summer. In an interview with the Greek newspaper Gazzetta, he recalls what he took with him to England and talks about some of his best moments.
How would you describe your years at Benfica? «I experienced fantastic things and gained incredible and unforgettable experiences. Not only competing and winning titles, but also off the field. I grew up, became a father, my children were born next to Estádio da Luz. I also made many friends in Portugal.”

And he still leaves the best memories: «The celebrations of winning the championship at Marquês de Pombal. And of course all the European games against Benfica were fantastic. But if I have to choose one game, it’s the Champions League play-off, at PSV Eindhoven’s stadium, in which we qualified despite being left with ten players. It was very important to be in the group stage of the Champions League again.
