Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov has been arrested as part of the corruption investigation in Ukraine, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday.

“The case of the Odessa factory Krajan. The head of the city of Odessa has been arrested,” the prosecutor’s office announced on the Telegram platform.
The investigators believe that Trukhanov and another suspect misled the members of the city council about the procedure for purchasing the premises of the “Krajan” factory.
The defendants in the case embezzled city budget funds. In the case of Trukhanov, the losses are 92.6 million hryvnias (22.8 million euros), according to the investigators.
The case has been pending for two years, and it has become one of the loudest corruption cases in the country.
Trukhanov was elected mayor soon after the Maidan revolution.
He once represented the Party of Regions of former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.
The mayor will be considered an extremely controversial political figure for many years.
