Twenty-six-year-old Odermatt confirmed that he currently has no competition in the giant slalom. Although the reigning Olympic champion and world champion in this discipline offered his opponents a chance after a big mistake in the opening round, he ended up extending his winning streak with an aggressive and clean second run. In the giant slalom, he has already won eight times in a row since last season, extending his podium streak to 22 races.
Feller, who reigns among the slalom skiers this season, held onto the hope of a premiership victory in the giant slalom under the artificial lighting on the Planai slope until the last interval. In the end, however, he was just not enough for the master of the discipline.
The third Kranjec was behind the winner by 29 hundredths. Last year’s champion Loic Meillard, who was in second place after the first round, fell to fifth place with a loss of 56 hundredths to the winning compatriot.
