Marco Odermatt will be in the fight for the podium at the giant Alta Badia. The Nidwaldien finished the first round in 3rd place at 0”40 behind Alexis Pinturault.
Odermatt took a little while to find the right rhythm. He took hundredths from the Frenchman at the bottom of the route. Between the two men, we find the Croatian Filip Zubcic at 0”26. And just behind the 23-year-old Nidwalden, we find the young Norwegians Atle Lie McGrath and Lucas Braathen.
The three other Swiss musketeers of the giant have experienced varying fortunes. Gino Caviezel had a pretty decent first round with a 10th place. Similar observation for Justin Murisier, excellent 11th on a track and a surface conducive to his style.
In good form at the start of the season, Semyel Bissig managed to grab the second round. The Nidwaldien took 26th place, 2”00 behind Pinturault.
Big disappointment on the other hand for Loïc Meillard who mortgaged his chances of starting in the second round with a huge error at the top of the track. Pointed at 3”18, the Valaisan of Neuchâtel origin could not do better than Xe. Daniele Sette and Cédric Noger also failed to qualify.
