Odense’s League Opener and Controversial Training Camp: A Furious Coach and Unexpected Changes

On Sunday, Odense plays its league opener against Randers. Before the series premiere, the team has been at a training camp in Enschede, the Netherlands.

In the team’s last training match before the league premiere, the team fell against Twente with a whopping 7-1 and that prompted Andreas Alm, head coach of the club, to act. He had seen enough and therefore decided to change the planning.

A training session was planned after the match against Twente, which Alm chose to cancel. Nick Hengelman, former goalkeeper in, among others, Twente and Go Ahead Eagles had been loaned in to complete the training squad, he kindly had to return home when there was no training.

– All of a sudden it wasn’t meant for us to train anyway, as he (Andreas Alm) was furious with the team. They didn’t play well and lost 1-7 just before, says Nick Hengelman to Danish Tipsbladet.

Hengelman, who had been called to Odense’s training, when the team had an injury to the regular goalkeeper, says that Alm apologized to the Dutchman.

– He was angry with the team, and he also came up to me and said sorry. He had to tell me that they couldn’t train anyway because he wanted to prepare them in a different way. He was calm with me and apologized for all my efforts.

Odense starts the season tomorrow at home against Randers.
