SUMMARY
An unexpectedly easy task for Mikel Arteta’s team at home to Crystal Palace. Roy Hodgson’s men won 1-0 away to Sheffield United in the first round, while the “gunners” beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 at home.
As could be expected: for most of the meeting, Arsenal possessed the ball much more, Crystal Palace did not rush out, they gave the area over to the guests.
The home team defended extremely tight and deep, so Arsenal had no real chance to score for a long time. The first big chance had to wait until the 29th minute, when Nketiah jumped out of Saka’s pass and, with two defenders on his neck, tried to roll the ball into the lower right corner from about eight meters from a slightly out of position position. The ball went past goalkeeper Johnstone, but bounced off the post.
Seven minutes later, Arsenal’s 14 could have scored again – Declan Rice made a great pass from the ankle to Nketiah, who came out at a perfect pace, who tried to lift Johnstone in a slightly phlegmatic manner. It was successful, but the ball also flew over the goal.
After the scoreless halftime, Arsenal broke the ice relatively quickly. In the 54th minute, after a quick free kick, Nketiah pushed the ball past Johnstone, the goalkeeper hit the striker’s leg. At the penalty spot Martin Ödegaard kept extremely calm, rolled into the bottom right corner, Johnstone missed the corner. 0–1
In the middle of the second half Tomijasz he got a yellow card first for time delay and then for pulling his shirt, so he could go take a shower – the only problem is that the second foul was very opinionated, he put his hand on Ayew’s shirt rather than pulling it.
The visitors, reduced to ten men, completely gave up the opportunity to attack and heroically defended their goal. Although Palace was very tight in the game, Arsenal managed a one-goal success, so the Sakas are flawless in the Premier League after two rounds.

MINUTE BY MINUTE
SECOND HALF
90+7. minute: IT’S OVER, ARSENAL WON THE MATCH!
90+5. minute: THERE WAS THE OPPORTUNITY IN FRONT OF THE PALACE! Several people in the penalty area headed the ball high, and finally Édouard would have poked it into the goal, but Ramsdale got ahead of him. From the rebound, Mitchell fired at the half-empty goal, but it went over.
90+4. perc: Havertz kicked the ball after a foul, so he also received a yellow card.
90+1. perc: Doucouré still turns yellow at the end.
90. perc: seven minutes of encore.
89. perc: Zinchenko and Kiwior enter, Ödegaard and Saka left the field.
88. perc: Arsenal are really stuck. Palace occupied the guests’ penalty area.
86. perc: this was a great chance! Mitchell sent a perfect ball towards Édouard, but the striker headed the ball very poorly, ending up well wide of the goal.
84. perc: at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta ordered everyone to the back, the goal is to achieve a one-goal success even with a man disadvantage.
83. perc: another change – Rak-Sakyi replaced Ward.
79. perc: Nketiah comes down, Jorginho continues in his place.
73. perc: substitution at Palace: Schlupp comes off, Ahamada comes on.
72. perc: Eze dribbled inside the penalty area and then fell. The referee showed him to stand up, Partey even demanded a yellow card for a foul.
70. perc: Gabriel stepped in for Martinelli.
67th minute: RED CARD! Tomijaszu received a yellow card a few minutes ago, now he grabbed Jordan Ayew from behind, and the referee judged the incident to be a pull back. He is extremely opinionated, but we also saw with Mac Allister’s foul on Saturday that the judges are very strict in the current season. Maybe too much…
66. perc: Arsenal continue to attack, now Havertz shot on goal. His shot was very inaccurate, Johnstone didn’t have to save.
62. perc: Saka rolled back for a shot to Partey, who fired without hesitation – the ball was headed for the middle of the goal, but the goalkeeper instead hit it for a corner.
60. perc: Tomijaszu receives a yellow card for time delay.
58. perc: his smoke was bigger than his flame – Eze lifted it over the goal from the free-kick.
57. perc: Eze stepped nicely in front of Saliba, the French defender hit his leg. Palace can take a free kick from roughly twenty meters.
55. perc: Jordan Ayew took the short top from a sharp angle and hit the target. The ball rattled the net, but only from the side.
54th minute: ARSENAL LEADS! Martin Ödegaard stayed remarkably calm and rolled into the bottom right corner, Johnstone missed the corner.
51st minute: OOPS, PENALTY! Martinelli quickly took the free kick, Nketiah pushed the ball past the keeper who hit his leg. The penalty is clearly justified. VAR looked back to see if Partey was fouled, but no. It’s Ödegaard’s penalty kick.
51. perc: Ayew fouled in a dangerous place, and he already has a yellow card… He got away with it.
50. perc: Martinelli shot hard to the center, the ball bounced off Ward’s shoulder. Of course, the referee did not award a penalty.
48. perc: Saka was stirring on the right wing, but he had no strength left for the pass – he shot the ball into Johnstone’s hands.
46. perc: you can continue.
FIRST HALF
45+2. perc: the end of the first half, no goals yet.
45+1. perc: Ödegaard lost the ball in the opponent’s half, Palace immediately countered. Arriving inside the penalty area, the ball was in front of Eze, and the attacking midfielder ended up on the ground instead of shooting. Of course, the audience shouted for a penalty like a human being, but the referee couldn’t be moved either.
45. perc: two minutes of extra time.
43. perc: From Partey’s pass on the right, Martinelli tried to catch it, but hit the ball horribly.
42nd minute: GREAT DEFENSE! Ödegaard shot from the right corner of the penalty area, goalkeeper Johnstone made a great save.
40. perc: Saka pulled in from the edge of the penalty area, shot at the goal in Mitchell’s grip, but the defender managed to tip the English national team forward.
38. perc: Ödegaard and Édouard butted heads, the referee stopped the match, but fortunately no serious injuries occurred – taking advantage of the treatment, both teams took a drinking break.
36th minute: WHAT WAS LEFT OUT?! Declan Rice made a great pass from the ankle to Nketiah, who came out at perfect pace, and in a somewhat phlegmatic way he tried to lift Johnstone over. It was successful, but the ball also flew over the goal.
35. perc: Ayew stepped out of Saliba’s bad touch, the attacker was already swinging his leg when the French full-back corrected his own mistake with a magnificent move. It was a fantastic setup.
34. perc: also rarely seen on a football field – Rice has to leave the field because his contact lens has dislodged.
29th minute: GOAL! Nketiah jumped out of Saka’s pass, with two defenders on his neck, and from a slightly out of position, he tried to roll it into the lower right corner with his left from about eight meters. The ball went past goalkeeper Johnstone, but bounced off the post. This was clearly the biggest chance of the match so far.
28. perc: Partey headed from Ödegaard’s free kick, but missed the target by about five meters.
27. perc: Ayew slashed Havertz badly, his “reward” being a yellow card.
26. perc: Saka led the ball to Mitchell, and Andersen headed the ball during his pass. A few moments later, Nketiah was sprawled inside the penalty area, but the referee did not award a penalty this time either.
23. perc: after the last few minutes, order was restored: Arsenal invaded the Crystal Palace penalty area and looked for a gap with short passes. The home team defends very narrowly, so for now it is not easy for the “gunners” to create serious situations.
20. perc: now Arsenal retreated a bit, but despite the fact that the home team had the ball for about a minute, a serious situation did not develop. First Eze, then Lerma shot from a distance – the former rebounded, the latter narrowly missed the goal.
16. perc: Édouard found himself in a position in the penalty area, Ben White saved at the last moment. The Palace players protested for handshakes, but the referee’s whistle remained silent – replays clearly showed that no foul had been committed.
14. perc: now Crystal Palace survived, so Arsenal had an opportunity to counterattack: Saka stole the ball in his own half, after a long sprint he passed to Nketiah, who didn’t notice Martinelli arriving long and empty. The striker passed it back to Saka, his shot bounced into the corner, which no longer posed a danger.
11. perc: Saka curled softly into the middle but Nketiah missed the pass. Johnstone pulled the ball down with ease.
After ten minutes, there is nothing surprising: Arsenal has much more possession (19-81%), and Crystal Palace does not rush out, giving the area to Mikel Arteta’s team.
8. perc: there is also Crystal Palace’s first attack: at the end of a quick counter, Jordan Ayew led the ball to Tomiyazu, the winger was able to pass the ball past the Japanese defender. At number five, Saliba was there and cleared.
5. perc: the corner swerved dangerously into the middle, but Havertz couldn’t get to the ball. Nice defense from the home team.
4. perc: Saka received the ball on the right wing, after a few dribbles he sent a left-footed shot into the center. The ball flew towards Nketiah, but Guéhi was able to save. Corner.
2. perc: Arsenal is already in danger! Martinelli was left completely empty at the left end of the Crystal Palace penalty area, but the Brazilian winger was a bit awkward, so they were able to block his shot. Saka repeated from the rebound, but his attempt did not reach the goal either.
1. perc: the clash has begun!
