OD Hotels has unveiled its new NFT art gallery called 2.0 Expansion, which is housed in the Altitude room created by metaverse architect 0xWolfgang on the Cyber platform.
The gallery, which was presented at the Ocean Drive Madrid hotel by OD Group art director, Álvaro González, and events manager, Jaime Irles, has a collection of 60 works by local and international artists, including 30 new works by artists like Joseba Elorza (aka MiraRuido) and Invader303, Stefano Colferai, Tony Babel, John Karel, WhatIsReal, Sutu, and TokBLOK, among others.
The gallery is accessible from any mobile device, tablet, computer or even with VR glasses, through a totally immersive experience. Those attending the presentation were able to visit the gallery on a high-quality screen and then access through a QR code to view the works on their mobiles.
OD Hotels and its commitment to art
The OD Hotels chain launched its first art gallery in September 2021 under the name of Ocean Drive NFT Gallery. It was born with the intention of helping and facilitating local artists access to a relatively new universe with which many were not yet familiar, and on the other hand, giving more visibility to international artists with great potential.
Currently, Ocean Drive NFT Gallery already has works by artists such as t_diary, Jben, Alex Soto, Ivan Solbes, letypage, MR Reychel, Maria Iriarte, Tristan Belenguer, Alex Torres, Julia Carretero, Laura Rahola, Raquel Meyers or Álvaro González who already they have transferred works.
As well as works owned by promising international artists such as Matías Vivanco (Brellias), Lemuet, Priya Mistry, Arya Mularama or Ilkin Abbaszadeh, among others.
Likewise, Toni Planells, winner of the OD Art Awards 2022, offered a masterclass to the attendees, making a brief introduction to NFTs, addressing topics such as security, generative art, metadata, smart contracts, promotion and social networks.
With this new collection, OD Hotels becomes the first Spanish hotel chain with a collection of NFTs, continuing its commitment and support for culture and art since the opening of its first hotel in Ibiza in 2006. In addition, OD Hotels also promotes works by artists in physical format in exhibitions at all its hotels, in its own magazine OD Mag, and in specific media such as its Twitter profile @oceandrivenft.
But what is an NFT?
Although a lot has been written about NFT, it never hurts to remember a little what we are talking about. Specifically, an NFT is an acronym for “Non-Fungible Token” or “Non-fungible Token” in Spanish. It is a type of digital token that uses blockchain technology to guarantee the authenticity and ownership of a piece of art, as OD Hotels has done, but also music, video, image or any type of unique digital file.
Unlike fungible tokens like cryptocurrencies, where one bitcoin is equal to another bitcoin, NFTs are unique and cannot be exchanged for other tokens of equal value. Each NFT is associated with a specific digital asset and contains unique and immutable information that guarantees its authenticity and ownership.
NFTs have become very popular in the world of digital art and NFT collections are sold at auction for millions of euros. They are also used in other fields, such as music, sports and video games, where unique tokens can be created for songs, player cards or virtual characters.
