This is the Oakville coronavirus update for Saturday, October 8, 2022. Hospitalizations fell 50% this week in the Halton area, but the numbers are increasing in Ontario, leading to possible evidence of a resurgence of COVID-19 in the next weeks.
Since our last update last Saturday, there have been 178 new cases due to COVID-19. Four people were taken to the hospital through Halton. 50% off last week. There are now only three active outbreaks in Oakville, all in nursing homes and long-term care. Another outbreak has ended and no new deaths have been reported locally.
Just yesterday, Health Canada has approved Pfizer’s dual COVID-19 vaccine for children. This is the second vaccine to target the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, in addition to the original virus strain. It is now approved for use as a booster dose for people 12 years of age and older.
The number of people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 is a maximum of two months in Ontario, and epidemiologists predict there will be some form of resurgence for the remainder of fall 2022.
The highest number of people hospitalized since August 4, 2022 is near last summer’s peak on July 28, when 1,492 people were hospitalized.
The federal government has Some COVID-19 measures have changed the boundaries across the country, which means travelers no longer need to provide proof of vaccination when entering Canada or wear masks on planes and trains.
From 1 October 2022, all tourists regardless of nationality must not:
- Provide public health information via the ArriveCAN app or website
- View the vaccination guide
- Take the test before your arrival or upon arrival
- Monitor and report if they develop any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival in Canada
- Do quarantine or isolation related to COVID-19
- Wear a mask on planes and trains
All Halton residents over the age of 18 can now benefit from the COVID-19 dual booster dose (Or a second booster dose designed specifically for the Omicron variant.) People over 70 and anyone over 18 in the healthcare industry can book their appointment now.
** Vaccine reservation: Fourth dose (second booster dose) of vaccine Now available to anyone in Halton aged 18 and overalthough the fourth dose must be at least five months since the last dose and 90 days since you contracted COVID-19.
Halton continued First and second dose of immunization reserved for all residents aged six months and older, as well as a third booster dose for anyone 12 years of age and older.

- 96% of Halton residents (including children over the age of 12) received at least one dose
