October 4: ‘Don’t Eat Animal Day’

‘On Animal Day, take all the animals off the map!’ Under that motto, the local working group of the Party for the Animals draws attention to the Eat No Animal Day initiative.

The campaign was started by Wakker Dier in 2011. With this they hope to make Animal Day even more animal-friendly. It is estimated that 2.7 million Dutch people do not eat meat or fish for the entire day on October 4.

The local working group of the Party for the Animals believes that it is high time that the Zaan catering industry also pays more attention to healthy, tasty alternatives to animal products.

A number of restaurants in Zaanstad are participating. For example, Kathmandu restaurant donates one euro to Dierenzorg Zaanstreek for every vegan or vegetarian dish sold and at JongWijs the plant-based menu receives extra attention on Eat No Animal Day. BAZ Bouldergym, Eetcafe ‘t Dammetje and Osteria Mediterranea offer a special plant-based menu on Animal Day.

For Zaankanters who want to prepare a plant-based meal indoors, the working group will hand out flyers with an animal-friendly recipe in the center of Zaandam and Oud-Koog on October 4 between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
