DHCD Secretary Jake Day visits MHP

Our state funding partners recently visited the Forest Glen Residences site and got an overview of this dynamic project, which will be completed in spring 2025. Much progress has been made and we were able to put on our hard hats and explore the interior and exterior of the building. DHCD Secretary Jake Day also stopped by Long Branch to see our extensive community development work there.

We thank Secretary Day and his team for coming to visit us and seeing our work firsthand.

MHP is excited to soon unveil the completed Forest Glen Residences property and welcome income-eligible residents. For those interested in leasing, please visit this site to fill out an interest form.

Empowering Families

Pumpkins and Fall Fun

School holidays are the perfect opportunity to go on special outings with our students! Homework Club students recently visited Butler’s Orchard for a day of fall fun. A hayride took the kids to a pumpkin patch where they each chose the perfect pumpkin to take home. There were lots of activities including giant slides, a new playground, a rope spider web, a corn bin and mazes. It was a great day to get out and play!

Strengthening neighborhoods

Tax credit assistance for residents

Did you know that the State of Maryland offers a tax credit to eligible renters?

The Renters Tax Credit program provides property tax credits to renters who meet certain requirements. The concept is based on the reasoning that tenants indirectly pay property taxes as part of their rent and therefore should have some protection, just like landlords. The plan is based on the relationship between rent and income.

This year, MHP helped 60 Franklin Apartments residents apply for the Maryland Renters Tax Credit. If found eligible, they will receive up to 1,000 TP4T from the state and 1,500 TP4T from Montgomery County, which provides a 50% match of the state credit.

Franklin is a senior citizen property and this funding will help our residents immensely.

Staff events

Hispanic Heritage Month

With so many of our staff members from Spain or Latin America, our recent office meeting for Hispanic Heritage Month was both informative and delightful! We enjoyed a variety of dishes from local restaurants and bonded with each other. Many people contributed to this wonderful celebration of cultures and shared their experiences living in America as people of Hispanic descent. Their perspectives also helped our staff better understand the experiences of our residents and community members, many of whom identify as Latino or Hispanic.

Real Estate Management Update

Congratulations to three members of our team who were recently promoted: Stephanie Roodman to Vice President of Real Estate, John Poyer to Director of Real Estate, and Jon McCall to Director of Real Estate!

We appreciate the many contributions of our dedicated staff who help us make the home possible
