(NAP) The meat processing industry slaughtered 1,161 million head of cattle in the tenth month of the year, a total almost identical to that registered in September, according to the latest report from the Chamber of Industry, Meat Trade, which was known in the first week of November.
The slaughter of females totaled 587.4 thousand heads in the tenth month of the year and was 20.3% higher than that registered in October 2022. In October of this year the participation of females in the total slaughter reached 50.6 %.
This number marked a new historical record, and there were seven consecutive months above the upper limit of the interval that is consistent with the maintenance of the cattle herd. “This means that we are in a liquidation of females that will compromise future production,” the work highlighted.
In October 2023, beef production was equivalent to 259 thousand tons of bone-in beef (tn r/c/h), accumulating four consecutive months of decline. The lower average hook weight more than compensated for the slight increase in slaughter corrected by the number of working days. The average hook weight dropped to 223 kilos (-2.7% monthly), co-signed the work prepared by the entity chaired by Miguel Schiaritti.
The greater number of heads sent to slaughter, as a result of the lack of water and food generated by the extraordinary drought in the last year, more than compensated for the (consequent) retraction of the average hook weight.
The moving average of the last twelve months of apparent beef consumption would have been 53.2 kg/inhabitant/year, exceeding by 6.5% the level reached in October 2022 (+3.3 kg/inhabitant/year ).
In addition, last month the pace of increase in the general level of consumer prices in Greater Buenos Aires slowed down. After two months of increases of 12.2% monthly, in the last month the increase was 8.6% monthly and, in this way, in the interannual comparison the increase reached 142.9%.
The average price of beef cuts usually measured by INDEC rose 6.3% between September and October. For its part, the price of chicken showed a smaller slowdown than that of beef cuts, registering an increase of 12.7% monthly.
Between October 2022 and October 2023, the average price of beef cuts measured by the INDEC rose 13.7% compared to the general level of the CPI. For its part, in relation to the price of whole chicken, the average increase in beef cuts was 6.6%.
Finally, in the comparison with the month prior to the start of the “quarantine” implemented to confront the Covid-19 pandemic, in February 2020, the increase in the general level of the GBA CPI reached 739.0% (+8 .4 times) and the average price of beef cuts did the same by 903.3% (+10.0 times).(Agricultural News)
