The six-year rivalry between Slovak Samuel “Pirate” Krištofič (17-6) and Czech Karlos Vémol (36-8) culminated in a brutal KO after 108 seconds. Vémola, in his own words, fell in the penultimate match of his career, similar to how he did in November 2019 with Attila Végh.

The former interim middleweight champion and winner of the second series of Oktagon Challenges Krištofič was an outsider at odds of 4.04-1.21. He boarded in a pirate hat and mask. He sang his boarding pass, roared after entering the cage, he seemed confident. The pressure exerted by the big-mouthed Vémol didn’t seem to touch him.

“‘Pirate’ grows with opportunity. The harder the match, the better he will perform,” said commentator and promoter Ondřej Novotný. Although Vémola was on home soil, Krištofič received more support from the fans. “Pirate, Pirate,” chanted the hall before the combatants were announced. Meanwhile, Kristofič beat his chest like King Kong, Vémola marched like a lion in a cage. Novotný declared him a “fighting legend”.

The match had a wild pace from the start. Krištofič was excellently prepared physically and tactically. In a lowered stance, he and Vémol were frantically exchanging blows in stance. Krištofič rejected two takedown attempts in the opening half-minute.

The Slovak was more accurate in shootouts and surprisingly stronger in clinches. Vémol was being hit hard, he was gradually slowing down. Kristofič hit several times with his knee in the clinch. At the end of the second minute, a combination of left and right hooks worked for him, and Vémola fell limp to the ground.

He fell on his back, his body shaking in a spasm. He recovered after a few seconds. “Déjà vu for Karlos is happening again,” Novotný recalled the famous loss in the Match of the Century against Attila Végh. “The killer is back,” shouted Kristofič as he jumped over the cage and snatched the microphone from his hand.

In the match of his life, Krištofič won the biggest scalp in his career, even before the result was announced, he cried. “Never doubt yourself,” he told the camera, struggling with emotion. Despite the rivalry, he expressed respect to Vémol, applauding with his hands above his head when he left the cage.

“Pirate” returned to a winning streak after losing to Alex Lohoré and Robert Bryczek, against whom he received the first knockout in his career. “After Bryczek, I said to myself that I’m sick of it. That I’m probably old, it turned me off like… I really wanted to hang it up,” explained Krištofič.

Vémola was still sitting on the floor for several tens of seconds after the knockout. He left the Octagon without a word, so it is questionable what impact the loss will have on the already confirmed rematch of the Match of the Century against Attila Végh (33-9 and 2 draws), after which he planned to end his career.

VIDEO: He preferred Brickfield. Novotný explained why the rematch between Végh and Vémola will not take place in Bratislava:

Čepo fell in a bloody fight for the title

Slovakian Vlasto Čepo (12-3) did not win the interim title in the absence of the injured Czech middleweight champion Patrik Kincl (27-10). Polish Piotr Wawrzyniak (12-5) defeated him in a bloody fight after a technical KO in the 3rd round and became the rightful challenger of Kincl.

The Slovak wants the title

Finding a replacement at the last minute is a difficult mission for a promoter, especially during the Christmas holidays. Brazilian Henrique Madureira (5-5) accepted the match against Slovak Karol Ryšavé (13-6) with only three days’ notice. The course corresponded to it.

The redhead did whatever he wanted with his opponent. After the first punch, he took the fight to the ground. Madureira got up, but collected in the clinch and at a distance. He wrapped himself in the cover, nothing threatened the winner of the third series of Oktagon Challenges. After hitting the bottom, he went to the ground, where the referee ended the duel after more blows.

Rýshavý moves from lightweight (up to 70 kg) to featherweight (up to 66 kg), where he has a clear goal: “I believe that in this weight I will be able to fight for a title chance.” He challenged the Swede Samuel Bark (9-2) of the division.

The legend ended his career

The legendary German fighter Martin Zawada (29-19 and 1 draw) ended his rich career at the age of 40 after losing to the Czech Daniel Škvor (7-3).
