Mexico City. The technical director of the Mexican team, Javier Aguirre, made official the return of the experienced Guillermo Ochoa, Raúl Jiménez and Andrés Guardado – who had announced his retirement from the Tricolor at the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar – for the friendly matches against the Spanish club Valencia and the United States, in the Puebla and Guadalajara stadiums, on October 12 and 15.
Aguirre kept his word of not looking at ages to make up his list. Ochoa (39 years old), Jiménez (33) and Guardado (38) are now the ones who lead a squad made up mostly of players from the Liga Mx.
Only Rodrigo Huescas (FV Kobenhavn), César Montes (Lokomotiv Moscow), Johan Vásquez (Genoa), Edson Álvarez (West Ham) and Orbelín Pineda (AEK Atenas), in addition to the AVS Futebol goalkeeper and the Fulham forward, will arrive from Europe to join efforts.
Among the surprises, the call of Obed Vargas, Seattle Sounders midfielder, stands out, as well as the inclusion of the Argentine naturalized Mexican Germán Berterame, who will wear the tricolor shirt for the first time.
