Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
National University sociologist Sigit Rochadi named officials who helped promote fictitious donations Akidi Tio in South Sumatra (South Sumatra) should be penalized for playing a role in raising public lies.
According to him, the public was amazed by the alleged lie of Heriyanty – Akidi Tio’s daughter – after a number of officials made convincing statements about a donation worth Rp. 2 trillion for the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Sumatra.
Moreover, the handover was carried out at one of the state institutions, namely the South Sumatra Police.
“Sanction measures must also be given to public officials because Heriyanty is unlikely to emerge without the help of public officials,” said Sigit in a joint talk show program. CNN Indonesia TV, Wednesday (4/8).
Sigit assessed that the Akidi Tio case was the result of the disorganized thinking of the officials. He questioned the actions of officials promoting Akidi Tio’s donation without checking with the PPATK or the Director General of Taxes.
He argues that strict sanctions need to be given to officials as a deterrent effect. That way, state officials will not return to being actors of public lies.
“I think this puts more pressure on officials, more demands on officials to be careful in making decisions,” he said.
On the same occasion, former Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Hamid Awaluddin also satirized the official way of thinking. He assessed that the officials did not use critical reasoning in this case.
Hamid said the case of Akidi Tio was not the first time officials were upset about the promise of donations. He cited the case of a businessman who promised to donate a house in Palu, Central Sulawesi after the liquefaction disaster.
To date, there has been no realization of this promise. The ‘liar’, he said, was even awarded the Mahaputra Star award.
A similar story also comes from the Old Order period when the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Sukarno entertained King Idris and Queen Markonah. The two claimed to be nobles willing to contribute to the liberation of West Irian. In fact, Idris is a rickshaw puller, while Markonah is a prostitute.
“She (Heriyanty) is nobody, from nowhere suddenly we believe there are two trillion [rupiah]? That’s the reason we are persecuted, we actually believe it,” said Hamid, who is also known as one of the heads of the center of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
Hamid also emphasized the imposition of criminal law on Heriyanty, as the person most responsible for spreading the alleged fraudulent donation.
Previously, the public was shocked by the handover of donations from a businessman named the late Akidi Tio. The donation, worth Rp. 2 trillion, was symbolically handed over by an heir named Heriyanty Tio to the South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Eko Indra Heri.
He promised that the money would be disbursed on August 2, 2021, and could be used for handling Covid-19. However, the money never disbursed after the deadline ended.
In this case, Heriyanty has been investigated for alleged lies by the South Sumatra Police. In addition, the National Police Headquarters has also sent an internal team consisting of Itwasum and Divpropam to examine the South Sumatra Police Chief and his staff.
Previously, the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, who was present at the symbolic handover of aid from Akidi Tio through the South Sumatra Police Chief, admitted that he had been invited suddenly.
