From Tuesday, April 6, it is no longer mandatory for private individuals to house their poultry and birds. That is what Minister of Agriculture David Clarinval said. The risk of contamination with the bird flu virus has decreased.
The housing requirement was introduced in November last year, after the bird flu virus H5 was diagnosed in Belgium. But according to the federal food safety agency (FASFC), the situation is evolving favorably, which allows for some relaxation to be made.
Feed indoors
In concrete terms, the housing obligation for private individuals will be lifted from April 6. The animals still need to be fed indoors so that wild birds are not lured to the run.
“However, vigilance remains necessary: the virus may still circulate in Belgium, but the risk of infection is low enough to take this first step,” warn the minister and the FASFC.
