At the age of 86, the former school director Hans Meroth died. He dedicated his professional as well as voluntary life to education and culture. Another great interest was nature.
Born in Weil am Rhein, Meroth grew up in Oberkochen. After graduating from high school, he studied in Freiburg, Tübingen and Schwäbisch Gmünd. After initially teaching in Auernheim, Meroth took over the management of the Wangen / Göppingen elementary school in 1969, before joining the Giengener Bergschule as principal in 1972.
In 1977 Meroth was brought to the state education authority, where he primarily took care of the internal design of the secondary schools, accompanied the first attempts to implement an expanded educational offer and initiated the teacher internship.
Before he retired in 1996, Meroth looked after the elementary and secondary schools in the southern part of the Heidenheim district.
Even outside of his school engagement, Meroth was active in many ways. When the Urban History Working Group was founded in 1977 in the run-up to the 900th anniversary of the city of Giengen, he was there from the start. In the 1970s he was also director of the Giengen adult education center. This activity ended when he switched to the state education authority.
