Nancy L. Brenden, 93, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at Pleasant View Assisted Living, Whiting, Iowa.
A funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa with Reverend Richard Moore and Pastor Jed Shermer, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Nancy’s obituary. Burial will follow in the Harrison Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.
Nancy Louise was born January 7, 1930 in Whiting, Iowa at home, the daughter of Clarence and Myrna (Law) Hale. Nancy grew up in Whiting and graduated from Whiting High School with the class of 1948.
Nancy Hale and Arnold Brenden were united into marriage May 21, 1948 at the Whiting Christian Church. To this union six children were born, Amy, George, Janice, Bonnie, Charles, and Casey. Arnold passed away April 2, 1982 in Whiting, Iowa.
Nancy worked as a bookkeeper/office manager for Pleasant View Care Center for over thirty years. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and baking. Music was Nancy’s passion. She was the choir director/organist for the Whiting Christian Church for many years. Nancy loved to laugh, had an infectious smile, and a great sense of humor.
Nancy was a member of the Sweet Adelines, Toast Masters, and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. She was on the Whiting City Council and was a past mayor of Whiting for several years. Nancy was a member of the Whiting Christian Church.
Survivors include her children, Amy (Calvin) Sweeten of Overland Park, Kansas, Janice (Todd) Burton of Des Moines, Iowa, Bonnie (Billy) Mandrell of Clinton, Oklahoma, Charles (Shirley) Brenden of Sun City, Arizona, and Casey (John) Jester of Onawa, Iowa; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ardis McCandless of Whiting, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Myrna (Law) Hale; husband, Arnold Brenden; son, George Brenden; sisters, Ruth (Elmer) Swan, Ellen (George) MacClure, Mollie (Terry) Rowe, and Rose (Rod) Holloway; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Donna Williams, Lois (Neil) Leapley, Gale (Joann) Brenden, Doris (Barney) Nelson, and Bert McCandless.
