He is a legend of African football who has just left us. Former Algerian international Faouzi Mansouri died on Wednesday at the age of 66 following a long illness.
During his club career, Mansouri defended the colors of several French formations. Passed by Nîmes Olympique (1975-1980), he joined AS Béziers (1980-1981), then Montpellier (1981-1983), before joining FC Mulhouse (1983-1985). In 1985, he decided to return to MHSC to play one last football season.
His time in selection is notably marked by his participation in two World Cups, in 1982 and 1986. He was one of the Fennecs heroes who won the first match of a World Cup, in 1982 against Germany, in Gijón (Spain ).
After the announcement of his death, the Algerian journalist, Nabil Djellit, reacted on Twitter. “Faouzi Mansouri has just left us. 2 World Cups with Algeria and a fine professional career with Nîmes, Montpellier and Mulhouse. Rest in peace “he wrote.
