[서울경제TV=김혜영기자] Obigo, a smart car software (SW) platform company, announced on the 18th that it has developed an application to verify the performance of next-generation vehicle communication ‘5G-NR-V2X’ in the national project ‘Development and verification of next-generation autonomous vehicle communication technology’.
A company official said, “V2X communication enables cooperative autonomous driving by exchanging useful information among all road users, including self-driving cars, other surrounding vehicles, road infrastructure, and pedestrians.” He added, “With the completion of program verification, the driver’s “It will be an opportunity to accelerate the introduction of 5G-NR-V2X to support mobility innovation and level 4 or higher autonomous driving services,” he said.
This project, worth a total of 16.3 billion won, aims to develop application software to verify domestic 5G-NR-V2X performance and secure high-quality data. The purpose is to dominate the next-generation vehicle communication market and establish the foundation for the connected autonomous driving industry. From February 2022 to the end of 2025, a number of automotive service companies and research institutes will participate, and this project will encompass everything from the development of domestic communication equipment to the establishment of a standard system and verification.
Obigo was selected as a joint research institute in recognition of its expertise in connectivity-based software development and technological prowess in the data and service sectors. Obigo is responsible for developing and demonstrating application software programs for verification of 5G-NR-V2X, which has the characteristics of ultra-high speed, ultra-low delay, and high reliability in the field of advance driving. In addition, the self-developed application collects data such as the vehicle’s location, direction, and speed, and shares this data with each other for analysis. We plan to provide a safer travel experience by conveying the possibility of danger to drivers in real time when changing lanes.
Han Doo-hyun, Chief Technology Officer of Obigo, said, “The development of application software based on 5G-NR-V2X will be an important milestone supporting the development of fully autonomous driving technology.” He added, “Ultra-high speed (over 150Mbps) and ultra-low delay (less than 3ms) between vehicles. “We will provide optimized solutions and services for the upcoming autonomous driving era through commercialization of core software for high-reliability (over 99.99%) communication.”
In 2023, the company developed one application program through research and development such as upgrading the Driving Route Sharing (DRS) algorithm, developing a test simulator and collecting center data, designing the user interface (UI), and measuring V2X communication performance. This year, IFS-CAV (Information Share for Connected Autonomous Vehicle) application software was additionally developed. /hyk@seadaily.com
Improve the overall reliability and safety of autonomous vehicle communication systems. Obigo was selected for this project due to our expertise in smart car software development and our proven track record in implementing advanced communication technology. We bring a unique perspective that integrates software and automotive engineering, which is essential for achieving the project’s goals.
Before we begin the interview, let’s introduce our guests. We have Han Doo-hyun, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Obigo, a smart car software (SW) platform company, and Kim Yeon-ah, a leading automotive analyst at Seoul Economic Daily. Thank you both for joining us today.

1. As mentioned in the article, Obigo has developed an application to verify the performance of next-generation vehicle communication ‘5G-NR-V2X’ in the national project ‘Development and verification of next-generation autonomous vehicle communication technology’. Could you elaborate more on the significance of this development and its potential impact on the future of autonomous driving?
Han Doo-hyun: Sure, I’d be happy to. This development is crucial for the advancement of autonomous driving technology because it enables vehicles to communicate with each other and their surroundings in real-time. 5G-NR-V2X technology allows for high-speed and low-latency communication between cars, road infrastructure, and pedestrians, which is essential for cooperative autonomous driving. With this technology, cars can share vital information such as their location, speed, and direction, which can help prevent accidents and optimize traffic flow. It’s a significant step forward in making our roads safer and more efficient.
Kim Yeon-ah: I agree with Han Doo-hyun. This development is especially noteworthy because it addresses one of the key challenges facing autonomous driving, which is ensuring safe and reliable communication between vehicles. With 5G-NR-V2X technology, vehicles can share information more accurately and quickly, making it easier for them to anticipate and respond to changing road conditions. This has the potential to reduce traffic congestion and make driving more enjoyable for commuters while also boosting efficiency for logistics companies that rely on transportation.
2. Can you tell us more about the project, its goals, and how Obigo was chosen to participate in it?
Han Doo-hyun: The project, worth a total of 16.3 billion won, aims to develop application software to verify domestic 5G-NR-V2X performance and secure high-quality data. It also seeks to
