Obi-Wan Kenobi runs around with a butter knife in Fortnite and fans hate it

Hardly anything is as closely connected as the Jedi Knights from Star Wars and their lightsabers. Still, Fortnite keeps bringing skins without the iconic weapon, even though it would lend itself so much. The most recent example: Obi-Wan Kenobi.

This is the Obi-Wan skin: The new Obi-Wan Kenobi series is coming soon. Unsurprisingly, Fortnite has released a new skin pack for it – featuring the titular hero himself, Obi-Wan Kenobi. This was given to the winners of the Obi-Wan Cup at the weekend and should soon be available for purchase in the shop.

The set consists of several cosmetics:

The package also includes a super… knife

On the one hand there is the Obi-Wan skin, with which you can transform yourself into the Jedi Master. Join in:

  • The Desert Gear Back Bling, which arguably contains just about everything Obi-Wan would need in his exile on Tatooine.
  • The Jedi interceptor from the movies that you can use as a hang glider.
  • An emote called “Obi-Wan’s Message”.
  • And of course Obi-Wan’s iconic weapon, Obi-Wan’s Blade. A small knife that the Jedi Master can use to mine resources and fight.

Moment… was?

Fans say: Give us lightsabers

What the fans say: While the Obi-Wan skin is well received and can score points with the glider, for example, many are surprised that Obi-Wan comes with “Obi-Wan’s Blade” as a harvesting tool – and not with his lightsaber.

This also lands Obi-Wan in the group of Star Wars characters who are obviously supposed to have a lightsaber as a harvesting tool, but wield something else instead. For example, both Rey and Kylo Ren from the new films are in the game, but don’t have their lightsabers by default.

Although the popular blades from Star Wars have always been used as weapons in Battle Royale, they are still not available as cosmetics.

And at least with Obi-Wan, fans would have liked to see that. In the Fortnite subreddit “FortniteLeaks” some are annoyed about the missing weapon, especially since the lightsaber even hangs on his new “Desert Gear” backpack without being used:

  • “Didn’t know his famous weapon was a butter knife,” writes user MasterChief49 (via reddit).
  • “Can’t wait for them to put the Death Star on a stick for a pickaxe for Darth Vader,” quipped another user (via reddit)
  • “I really wanted to buy this, but it’s pretty disappointing to see a friggin’ shovel in hand and no built-in hooded emote,” said user ZazaBoo (via reddit).

Overall, some players are sad that there are no more variations of the skin while, for example, the content creator “Ali-A” got a huge skin pack.

It is not known why the Star Wars heroes came into play without their weapons as harvesting tools. Some players suspect that it has to do with licensing rights and that Fortnite is only allowed to use the swords as a weapon, but not as a cosmetic.

Others say that if the cosmetic and the weapon existed at the same time, it might be too confusing. However, there was a similar situation with Wolverine’s blades, for example – there was no problem.

There is currently no official information on this subject. However, players still hope that one day they will be able to run around with their heroes’ lightsabers as harvesting tools – and not with some spare items.

Basically, legendary weapons in video games are always a big topic – and it hardly gets more iconic than the “lightsaber”. But there are other examples as well: Here are some video game weapons that will stay in our memories forever.
