Obese baby in Bekasi, Mother: XXL diaper, often wears his father’s clothes

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Muhammad Kenzi Alfaro, a 16-month-old baby who is obese and weighs 27 kilograms, usually wears his father’s clothes.

Some of his father’s clothes look right when worn by Kenzi.

“In terms of clothes, sometimes he wears his father’s clothes. His father is small,” said Kenzi’s mother, Pitriah (40), at her residence, Pusaka Rakyat Village, Tarumajaya, Bekasi Regency, Tuesday (21/2/2023).

In addition, Kenzi is also often given clothes by his relatives. Although Kenzi is only 16 months old, the clothes given to her are actually clothes for children aged 10 and over.

In addition, Kenzi uses XXL diapers or disposable diapers. XXL size diapers are more expensive than smaller sizes.

Kenzi’s parents, who belong to a lower-middle class family, cannot afford to buy many XXL diapers. Because of that, Kenzi only wears diapers while sleeping.

“Then the diapers too, if you buy it you can’t buy it either. So, I use the XXL one. I also buy it at the shop, the XXXL ones are not available in the shop, Indomaret is also rare, so he only uses them when he sleeps,” said Pitria.

Limitations also forced Pitriyah to feed Kenzi with sweetened condensed milk. Pitriyah could not afford to buy formula milk for the child.

Because, she and her husband also have to finance Kenzi’s two sisters who are still in school.

Apart from that, her husband was just a casual worker in fishing with an uncertain income.

“One day you can get IDR 50,000, if it’s crowded it can be IDR 80,000. Fishing depends on visitors,” said Pitriyah.

According to Pitriyah, despite being obese, Kenzi has no other problems. However, Pitriyah is still worried about Kenzi’s weight, which is different from other kids her age.

“(Anxious) yes. His body is like this (large and heavy). I have consulted a doctor, from the health center he was asked if he was given milk, it is thinner. I followed his advice, ate less. If he has rice, he can’t eat it,” said Pitriyah.
